Sardar Akhtar Mengal elected BNP-M chief unopposed


QUETTA/ISLAMABAD: Sardar Akhtar Mengal and Habib Jalib advocate were elected unopposed on Sunday as the president and general secretary of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) respectively, party members said. Agha Hassan Baloch was elected information secretary.

According to the election results, Jahanzeb Jamaldini was elected senior vice president, Sajid Tareen vice president, Jahanzeb Baloch deputy general secretary, Akhtar Hussain Longov joint secretary, Abdul Razaq Longov labour and social secretary, Hammal Baloch finance secretary, Malik Naseer Shahwani secretary for fisheries and farmers while Jamila Baloch was elected the party’s women’s affairs secretary.

Mengal received messages of congratulations from both Balochistan Assembly opposition member Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The PM, in his message, said Mengal’s election as president of the BNP-M was evidence of the trust the party had in him. Gilani hoped Mengal would prove an asset for the country and would help strengthen democratic norms and institutions.
